Drilling & Fracturing
Registry for natural gas chemicals launched
A registry for chemicals used in extracting natural gas through hydraulic fracturing was launched on April 10, 2011.
The two coalitions behind the registry are the Ground Water Protection Council and the Interstate Oil and Gas Compact Commission. Participating companies are voluntarily posting the data at fracfocus.org. Twenty-four drillers have volunteered to post the data on the registry and additional companies have indicated that they will soon be posting their information. Anyone can go to fracfocus.org and choose their state, county, operator and well name and see a list of the chemicals that were used to fracture the well.
